2006
MAC becomes a 501c3 organization, a full
non-profit organization. All donations, etc., are now tax deductible. This also
opens the door for Corporation donations and sponsorships to MAC.
2005
Billboards move to 3 new locations in Baton Rouge.
Meetings with the State Safety Committee continue with movement towards some
support.
M.A.C. Committees formed in January begin work: Education, Publicity,
Membership, Activities, and Legislative.
The Articles of Incorporation are
received by the Secretary of State
First Billboards go up in three locations, in Baton Rouge.
First general meeting of 2005 is held on
Jan. 25th.
2004
The first Directors are elected to the Organization's Board of
Directors.
The 5 elected Boardmembers are: Mike Abadie, Roshon Cody, Craig Michelet,
Paul Levy, and Skip Haley.
MAC's Treasurer
and one of those who was involved in founding MAC, Ron Waguespack, is killed
on December 11th, when an automobile pulls out in front of his motorcycle.
Mike Holmes is named by the board to complete Ron Waguespack's term of office.
The new board names its 2005 officers: President Warren Broussard,
Vice-President Johnny Porche, Treasurer Craig Michelet, Secretary Sandy
Michelet.
The board forms the following committees to develop and oversee MAC ongoing
activities:

Publicity Legislative
Technology
Each committee will elect its chairman after it is formed and organized at the
January general meeting.
The first "Motorcycle Awareness Ride' is held, with
almost 200 motorcycles. Click HERE to

The organization gets its charter and puts its bylaws into place.
Representatives of the group meet with the head of the State
transportation committee, Col Champagne and discuss ways of improving
other drivers' awareness of motorcycles on the roads.
A section is added to the La. Drivers' Test pamphlet to raise this
awareness.
The first slate of officers is put into place:

The MotorcycleAwarenessCampaign.org website goes online.
An organizational meeting is held, and formation of the
new group begins, under the leadership of Terry Smith, GWRRA, and Warren
Broussard, H.O.G.
An ad-hoc group of bikers from several organizations ride
to Convent where the trial of a woman who hit two motorcycles in her car
is being held. In this accident, Bikers Jim and Nancy Alton were killed,
and Ron Waguespack and his wife were terribly injured.
In a peaceful and non-threatening way, this group of about 40 bikers let
their presence and interest in the outcome of the trial be known. The idea
of a new organization of all types of bikers and other interested
individuals and groups to enhance safety through biker and driver
education begins to take solid form.
Before and during the helmet law controversy, several
bikers, including Terry Smith of the Goldwing Riders, Warren Broussard of
the Baton Rouge HOG Chapter, Ron Waguespack, and others, began talking about the
possibility of a new organization to make biking safer, especially to
raise awareness of bikers in other motorists. |
