MAC meets with Mississippi Lt. Governor Phil Bryant
Written by Tom CraisTop Motorcycle Awareness Campaign officials attended a meeting with Mississippi on June 13, 2011. Lt. Governor Bryant, an avid motorcyclist, appreciates the difficulties faced by the motorcyclist on our roadways.
Warren Broussard and Steve Carver from the MAC National Office in Baton Rouge, La. and Tom Crais MAC State Coordinator for Mississippi met with Lt. Governor Bryant to discuss a MAC program in Mississippi, and several other items including one that was of particular interest.. MAC license plates.
The group reviewed the high number of motorcycle crashes occurring due to Right-of-Way violations by the motorist which promotes the defense statement “I didn't see the motorcycle”. Warren shared statistics on Louisiana crashes along with actions taken to reduce ROV. All agreed that a multi-point attack is needed:
- Increasing the awareness of the motoring public to the increasing presents of motorcyclist on our roadways.
- Promoting motorcycle operator training courses for the new motorcyclist.
- By proclamation from the Governor, the establishment of an annual Motorcycle Awareness Month in May.
