About M.A.C.
What is The Motorcycle Awareness Campaign?
Let’s begin by
explaining what MAC is not.
MAC is not a social organization. For example, we do not have group rides
just for the fun of riding. The rides we have are intended to promote
the organization and motorcycle awareness. It is, of course, necessary
for MAC to promote itself in order to solicit support and membership.
No organization can exist without people who are willing to be involved.
MAC is not a supporter
of charities. We do not have the resources to support charities. That
is not to say that our membership does not condone or support charities,
it is simply not our organizational focus.
MAC is not interested
in promoting one brand, style or type of motorcycle. We are
non-denominational when it comes to motorcycle brands. No one is
excluded from joining MAC.
So, what exactly is MAC?
In
an effort to promote a safer riding environment, motorcycle riding groups
and riders are coming together to make a difference. MAC is a non-profit organization presently comprised of
riding groups such as Baton Rouge Harley Owners Group, Goldwing Road
Riders Association, Southern Cruisers Riding Club, Christian Motorcyclists
Association of Louisiana, Louisiana Lady Cruisers, Nubian Kruzers, Ladies of Harley, Iron
Warriors, Blue Knights and False River Riders, to name a few. More
groups, individual riders and business owners are joining every day.
Our efforts have been in the Baton Rouge
area but there has been interest shown in starting chapters in other
areas of Louisiana.
The purpose of the campaign is to create safer roads for all of us to
share.
We are educating motorists and motorcycle riders of the facts, and of
the situations that lead to accidents, injuries and deaths.
Information is being shared through
printed materials, billboards, lectures and guest appearances, to name a
few. Did you know that most accidents that a motorcycle is involved in occured at an intersection with an oncoming vehicle taking a left hand
turn? Well, now you do! We hope bits of information like this will make
us all think to look ahead for the other guy. And did you know that
in most cases where motorcyclists are killed in a collision with another
vehicle, it was the other vehicle that caused the accident by violating
the motorcycle's right of way? Sad but true!
Specific changes are already being made through the Department of Motor
Vehicles. The State Driving Test now has a new section that covers
sharing the road with both motorcycles and large tractor/trailers.
The information in the new booklet is both helpful and
informative. It will be through real changes like this one that we can
make the road a safer place to share.
MAC is very focused on our mission statement. That statement is:
“To promote
awareness and safety of motorcyclists on Louisiana roadways.”
MAC is non-profit. One hundred percent of
dues and contributions go to promoting motorcycle awareness.
MAC is always interested in hearing about
new and innovative ways to bring motorcycle awareness to the motoring
public. Everyone can help with that!
MAC is committed to your safe
motorcycle riding experience.
Motorists
and motorcyclists alike have a stake in this effort, as well as a terrible price to
pay if action for change isn’t taken. We hope to create an
environment where sharing the road with each other is always the top
priority for us all.
