Colonel James E. Champagne Addresses Local MAC Chapter.
The Dutch Battle Motorcycle Awareness Campaign Chapter met at its monthly meeting where motorcycle safety and awareness were discussed at length. President, Dr. James Nelson welcomed two guest speakers and honored guest to the meeting. Ed Patterson who is a certified motorcycle safety instructor spoke to the group briefly on motorcycle safety and the necessity of taking a safety course. Mr. Patterson is well respected in his field and has been doing this for over twenty years.

Colonel James E. Champagne, who is the Executor Director of Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, also gave a presentation. Director Champaign focused on the statistics that indicate Louisiana is one of the most dangerous places to drive in the United States. Director Champagne who is a motorcycle rider himself is committed to safety on our highways and especially motorcycle safety. He said that the enormous amount of accidents on Louisiana highway contributes significantly to the highest insurance rates in the United States. He made a plea to both motorcyclist and drivers of other vehicles, to adhere to the posted speed limits, and to be aware of your surroundings and fellow motorist.

Other guest included Hammond Police Chief Roddy Devall, Denham Springs Police Chief Jeff Wesley and Louisiana Motorcycle Safety Awareness in Operator Training Program Manager, Larry Ourso. National Motorcycle Awareness Champaign Board members in attendance were Warren Broussard, Bryan Neibuhr and Sam Dileo. Dr. Nelson invited everyone to visit the National Motorcycle Awareness Champaign website at www.macorg.com. Meetings for the Dutch Battle MAC Chapter are held the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at Ryan's!
