LA. HIGHWAY SAFETY COMMISSION HOLDS SEMINAR

On Tuesday, July 26, 2023, the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC) held an all-day symposium at the Renaissance Hotel in Baton Rouge. The topic was Impaired Driving in Louisiana, and I was in attendance, representing the Motorcycle Awareness Campaign.

Speakers included representatives from the law enforcement community, members of the criminal justice system, scientists from the field of safety and health, and prosecutors from the Louisiana District Attorneys Association.
The keynote address was an impact report on lessons learned for state marijuana legislation. Later, there were panel discussions on drug use and impaired driving, and a look at innovative solutions to combat drug-impaired driving.
The symposium wrapped with a general session on promoting a positive traffic safety culture.
According to the LHSC, of Louisiana’s 86 motorcycle fatalities in 2021, 39 involved alcohol.
