As MAC reported on December 27, 2023, 44-year-old David Nicholas Hermann lost his life in a crash two days earlier – Christmas Day – in Hammond.  The story appeared on our Facebook newsfeed, and you can see the story here:

https://www.fox8live.com/2023/12/27/christmas-morning-fatal-motorcycle-crash-victim-identified-by-hammond-police/

The news story concluded with “…the crash remains under investigation.”  No further information reached MAC’s desk.

On Friday, February 27, 2026, MAC received the following update, which we reprint with the permission of the sender:

“David was killed on 12/25/23 by a distracted driver. Her [the driver’s] report was ’she didn’t see him’. She reported that she was making a left-hand turn and something hit her. She was ticketed for driving under suspension, no proof of insurance and failure to yield. The DA elected to not prosecute her. Unfortunately, I am aware of two other fatalities with the same outcome. No justice!”

Our heart goes out to all who have lost loved ones due to inattentive or distracted drivers who “just didn’t see the motorcycle” and receive nothing more than the proverbial slap on the wrist.

Meanwhile, MAC urges everyone on two (and three) wheels to be ever-vigilant and watch out for motorists, because you must never assume they’re watching out for you.
